Our Roots

Forest Witchery began with a fascination for the places where plants, stories, beauty and ritual have always met.

Herbs have never belonged to only one world. They appear in old remedies, kitchen gardens, folk customs, beauty preparations, spells, seasonal traditions and stories passed from one generation to the next. The same plant can be practical, symbolic, beautiful and mysterious all at once.

Forest Witchery explores herbalism and magic through the lens of creativity, art, beauty, writing and exploration. It exists to be a guide back to magic, and to open a gentler, more honest conversation about what magic and witchcraft really are beyond the veil of fear, misunderstanding and stigma.

The roots of these traditions reach back through millennia. Long before witchcraft became something sensationalised or misunderstood, people were working with plants, observing the moon, marking the seasons, honouring the land and creating small rituals around birth, death, healing, protection, beauty and change. Magic was not always separate from everyday life. It lived within it.

There is magic entwined through the little rituals we still perform without thinking. Brewing a tea. Washing herbs through the hair. Lighting a candle. Gathering flowers. These small rituals have always been part of the way we care for ourselves and connect with the world around us.

As children, many of us believed naturally in fairies, enchanted forests and impossible stories. Imagination did not need to be justified. The world felt alive, mysterious and full of hidden doors. Somewhere along the way, that instinct was often taught out of us. This is your invitation to remember it.

We live in a technological age that keeps us constantly connected, yet often leaves us detached from the earth, from the seasons and from our own natural rhythm. Much of modern life arrives processed, packaged and separated from its origins. It becomes easy to forget that we are still part of the living world.

The earth continues to offer what it always has: flowers, herbs, plants, water, sunlight, darkness, changing weather and places where the mind can become quiet again. These things cannot replace every form of modern care, but they can nourish the mind, body and spirit in ways that feel ancient.

Here, you can follow botanical walks through gardens, woodlands and changing landscapes, or watch herbal beauty rituals unfold in our ASMR gallery. Through film, sound, writing and imagery, Forest Witchery explores the textures, colours and stories of plants, from familiar herbs growing close to home to the beliefs and traditions that have gathered around them for centuries.

The journal holds the longer stories. Some begin with a plant, a place or an old belief. Others follow seasonal changes, botanical discoveries, beauty traditions, and the history of our relationship with the land. The galleries bring those ideas to life through ritual, atmosphere and slow visual storytelling.

Forest Witchery is a reminder that the magical world is not somewhere else.

It is already around us, growing through pavement cracks, moving with the seasons, appearing in old stories and waiting within the plants we pass everyday.

All it asks is that we slow down long enough to notice it.
